When ı realised that Miss Lara was enjoying her experiences in Charleston so much while ı was struggeling with my violin in this Austrian music festival Allegro Vivo, ı decided to challenge her before ı get back to İstanbul! So ı made a small break in the beautiful capital city of Austria: Vienna ! While ı was exploring this amazing city for four days, a very close friend of mine accompanied me. These four days which we spent here were perhaps our best days ever but totally they were the most independent ones.
Wombats adinda bir Hostel'de kaldim. Tam ogrenci isi, ucuz, rahat ama bir o kadar da temiz ve kaliteliydi. Bir daha gitsem kesinlikle yine orda kalirim. Bu Avrupalilar Hostel olayinda bir numaralar ! Zaten bir tek birkac saat uyumak icin donuyordum Hostele! Dun,bugun,yarin kavramindan yoksundum resmen. Koca sehirde iki kafadar resmen bir basimizaydik. Kacta ciktik kacta donduk nerdeyiz napiyoruz bu soruları bize yoneltecek kimse yoktu. Bu kadar bagimsiz olmak meger ne guzelmis. Hele boylesine bir sehirde...
I stayed in a hostel called ' Wombats '. This was such a cheap and comfortable student hostel which was absolutely very clean and well qualified. These Europeans are really good about Hostels! However ı was going to the hostel just to sleep for a couple of hours. We were just the two uf us in this huge city. There was no one that we should explain when we went out or when we came back, what we did, where we were.. Such an amazing feeling: to be soo independent! Especially in such a beautiful city.

Ilk gun hemen bir Viyana klasigi gerceklestirdik ve tarihi Cafe DEMEL'de pastalarimizi yiyip Viyana'nin kahvesi Kaffee Melange ictik. Bir takim Viyana'nin olmazsa olmazlarini gerceklestirmenin disinda turistten daha cok orada yasiyormus gibiydik. Sokak aralarinda buldugumuz restoranlarda yemek yiyor, barlarda oturuyor, her gun farkli bir parka gidip cimlerde uzaniyor keyif yapiyorduk.
The first day we immediately made a Vienna classic: went to the famous historical Cafe DEMEL, ate wonderful cakes and drank Viennese Coffee: Kaffee Melange. Besides making some touristic things in Vienna we were such like people , who actually live in this city. We ate in different restaurants which we found in small streets, drank beers in local bars, went to a different park each day and had a relax on the green grass.
Ilk gecemizde sehirde harika bir organizason vardi: Gürtel NIGHTWALK. Bu gece Viyana'nin Barlar Sokagi diyebilecegimiz Gürtel adli caddesi boyunca yer alan tum barlarda canli muzik vardi. Barlarin icinde muzik olmasinin yani sira sokak boyunca yaklasik bes tane acik hava sahnesi kurulmustu ve saat basi buralarda konserler verildi.
On our first night there was a great organization in the city: Gürtel NIGHTWALK. This night there were lots of live music concerts in this famous street 'Gürtel' which is famous with its bars.There were also like five open-air stages along the street and every hour there was live music on these stages.
Biz de bir barda oturduktan sonra cadde boyunca yuruyup her konseri dinledik. Cikan gruplar oldukca kaliteli muzik yapiyordu. Herseyden evvel atmosfer mukemmeldi. Caddeye toplanmis genclerin kimisi barda oturarak muzige kulak kabartiyor, kimi bira standlarindan birasini alip sahne onunde dans ediyor, kimisi ise ickisini bakkaldan alip sahnenin yanindaki kaldırımlara cokup muzigin keyfini cikariyor.
After we enjoyed our drinks in a bar we walked up the street and listened to each concert on the open-air stages. The bands were making really good music. First of all the atmosphere was so nice! Some of the youth were sitting in bars, some of them were buying beer from the little beer stands and some of them were even taking their beers from market, sitting on the pavement and enjoying the music.
Gecemizi muzikle sonlandirdiktan sonra ikinci gune tekrar muzik esliginde basladik. Bu sefer Viyana Belediye Binasinin onunde Viyana Film Festivali kapsaminda duzenlenen Jazz müzik esliginde Brunch'a katildik.Yahu bu Viyana'lilar hayatin tadini cikarmakta hakkaten sinir tanimiyolar! Festival yerine vardigimizda konser coktan baslamis, dunya mutfaklarindan essiz secenekler sunan yemek standlari etrafa harika kokular yaymis ve insanlar jazz dinlerken bir yandan da aperatif ickisi ve mukemmel lezzetli yemeklerinin keyfini cıkarmaya baslamislardi bile!
After we ended out night with music we started the next day with music again! This time there was a Brunch accompanied by live Jazz music in front of the city hall. This organization was a part of Vienna Film Festival. These Viennese people really know how to enjoy the life! When we arrived at the place, the concert had already begun, the food stands from all over the world cuisines had started serving delicious food and people were already enjoying their meals accompanied by their aperitifs.Binanin onune devasa bir ekran kurulmustu.Ekran ve karsisina dizilen binlerce sandalye ile birlikte kocaman bir acik hava sinemasi kurdukları bu mekanda yaz boyunca neredeyse her gun onemli konserler,filmler ve operalar gosteriliyor. Boylece sehir, insanlari muzige tesvik etmenin bir yolunu daha buluyordu.
There was an enormous screen in front of the city hall. With this screen and the dozens of chairs which were put in front of the screen a huge open-air cinema was built and important concerts,films and operas were shown on this screen each day during the whole summer. So, the city finds another way to encourage the people to music.
Bu gordugunuz bina ise Viyana Universitesi. Sehrin her binasi gibi buranin da inanilmaz ihtisamli yapisi, tarih kokan atmosferi, tertemiz koridorlari, buyuleyici guzellikteki konferans salonlari, yemyesil sakin bahcesi ve bahcesinde yer alan Wien Universitat imzali mavi sezlonglari beni burada okumaya ikna etmek icin yeter de artar bile!This building is the State Univercity of Vienna. Like every other building in Vienna this one was also very beautiful. Also its historical atmosphere, clean corridors, glamorous auditoriums, very green garden and the lovely blue sunbeds on which ' Wien Universitat' was written were truely enogh to convince me to study here.
Yedigim bir baska enfes yemek de iste bu Pizza ! Yarisi Pizza TONNO(Tonbalik ve soganli) yarisi MARGHARITA. Viyana'ya geldik geleli mutlaka bir italyan pizzacisi bulmaliyiz diye konusup duruyoduk. Derken bir gun Barlar Sokagina ulasmaya calisirken tramvaydan yanlisikla erken indik ve yurumek zorunda kaldık. Az sonra bu yuzde yuz saf italyan Pizzacisiyla karsilastik. Bak sen su ise!
Another delicious meal that ı ate here was this great pizza! The half was Pizza TONNO ( Tunafish and onions) the other half was Pizza MARGHARITA. Since we came to Vienna we were constantly talking about finding a real italian pizzeria. One day, while we were trying to find the famous bars street we got off from the tram too early and had to walk a little bit. Just a few minutes later we saw this lovely place which was hundred percent a real italian Pizzeria. What a chance !
İtalyan garsonlari, sade ve tatli dekorasyonu ve de acayip lezzetli pizzalariyla burasi kesinlikle tam bir italyan Pizzeria idi !
With its italian servers, pure and lovely decoration and amazingly delicious pizza this place was actually a real italian pizzeria!
E hazir Viyana gibi kulturel bir sehirde iken biraz da kültür gezisi yapalım dedik ve kendimizi sehrin en onemli muzelerinden biri olan Naturhistorisches Museum ' da bulduk. Bu muze adi ustunde bir doga muzesi olup ozellikle gecmisten gunumuze kadar var olmus neredeyse tum hayvanlari sergılemesı ıle unlu. Ölu olup icleri doldurularak canli imaji verilen bu hayvanlarin cogunun nesli tukenmis. Hatta bazilarini gordugunuzde boyle varliklarin dunya uzerinde bir zamanlar var olduguna inanamiyor, en azindan artik yasamadiklarina sukrediyorsunuz!
We thought that we should also make some cultural tours when we were in such a historical city like Vienna. So we decided to visit this 'Naturhistorisches Museum'. As you understand from its name this museum was famous with its collection of dozens of animals which existed from past till today.
These animals which were actually dead were shown like there were still alive. The most of them are extinct. In fact when you see some of them, you can't believe that such animals really excisted once upon a time and you really thank god that they don't exist anymore!

These dead animals were so professionaly on display that sometimes ı actually even thought that they were suddenly going to move !
Viyana Lezzet Duraklarimizdan bir baskasi da ' Cafe de Provinz ' oldu. Burasi bizim italyan pizzacisi ile ayni cadde uzerinde bulunan bir cafe, krepleriyle unlu dediler bız de gittik ! Ne guzel cadde imis su ' Josephstadter Strasse' ! Fransiz krepcisi, italyan pizzacisi, firini, hemen ilerisinde barlar sokagi ve avusturya usulu Cafeleri ve de Viyana'nin tipik tatli apartmanlari ile tam yasamalik !
Another stop of our Vienna gourmet tours was ' Cafe de Provinz'. This place was on the same street with our italian pizzeria and was famous with its delicious crepes! What a wonderful street was this 'Josephstadter' Street ! With its French cafe with tasteful crepes, real italian pizzeria, austiran cafes, famous bars just at the end of the street and lovely Viennese apartments...
İste balli krepim. İlk defa kepekli undan yapilan bir krep yemis oldum. Enfesti. Ama bir de oglen gitmek lazim buraya. Ben kahvaltimi ederken hemen karsimda yer alan ocakta tuzlu kreplerin yapilisini izleye izleye oglen menusunde yer alan krepler cok fena aklimda kaldi... Kahvaltida uc secenek krep varken meger oglen bir on bes secenege cikiyomus !
Here is my crepe filled with honey. It was the first time that ı ate a crepe that was made from whole wheat flour. So delicious! But ı should definitely come here for lunch. While ı was eating my breakfast ı saw these salty crepes which were being prepared for the lunch menu. They were looking like so delicious!
Krepi bir yana buranin dekorasyonuna hayran kaldim. İste su minnacik ocakta yapiliyor o enfes krepler. Hersey oldukca basit ama cok zevkli dosenmis.
Besides its crepes ı loved the decoration of this place. These tasteful crepes were cooked on this tiny cooker. Everything was so simple but pleasantly decorated.
During the day we definitely made some breaks in the parks. These were another enjoyable moments of our trip. Each day we firstly bought some snacks from the market and then went to a different park. We relaxed on the green grass and enjoyed the peaceful time. For example in this photo we are in the Park AUGARTEN which was close to the Danube Canal.
Cimlerde soyle bir uzanip dinlenmenin ardindan harika bir Jazz dinletisine hazirdik! Mekan: JAZZLAND. Bu kucucuk,mutevazi lokal sehrin Jazz konusunda en iddiali yeri. Su minnacik sahneyi her gun baska bir basarili Jazzci sereflendiriyor. Mekan yer altinda olup tuglalarla dosendiginden akustik de inanilmaz.
After relaxing on the green grass we were ready for a nice live Jazz music. Next stop: JAZZLAND. This tiny modest local was the best in town for jazz music. Each night a successful jazz musician takes the stage. The acoustic was amazing.
Neredeyse uc saat sahnede kalan Sigd Fassl acayip gitar calmanin yani sira harika bir sese sahipti. Hem konserden hem de mekandan cok keyif aldim. Mekanin ve aynı zamanda seyircinin sadeligi o kadar guzeldi ki. İstanbul'a doner donmez bir Jazz Bar'a gidip kiyaslama yapmak istiyorum. Mutlaka guzel muzik bulurum ama merak ediyorum: acaba mekanda,izleyicide ayni sadeligi,ictenligi bulabilecek miyim?Sigd Fassl, who stayed almost three hours long on the stage was playing the guitar perfectly and his voice was also really good. I enjoyed the concert and the atmosphere as well.The plainness of the place and the audience was really nice. When ı get back to İstanbul ı will firstly go to a jazz bar and compare! I believe that ı will definitely find some good music but ı am not sure if ı can find such a plainless...
Viyana'nin bir baska klasigini daha gerceklesirmeden olmaz: FIGLMULLER ! Viyana'nin en unlu Schnitzel ' cisi. O kadar benimsenmiski menüsünde acik bir sekilde ' Sehrin en lezzetli Schnitzeli bizde ' diye yaziyor. E yalan degil, tüm rehber kitaplarin ilk sayfasinda bu lokantayi goruyorsunuz. Hani ben acikcasi rehber kitaplarda yer alan fazlasiyla turistik yerleri sevmem, genelde de o kadar iyi cikmazlar zaten. Ama burasi icin rehberler kesinlikle yanilmiyor.
Of course another MUST DO in Vienna: FIGLMULLER ! The restaurant that makes the most famous Schnitzel in the town. It's so obvious that they have the best Schnitzel, they even write on their menu that their Schnitzel is the best in town. And you definitely see this place's name on the first page in every guide book. Actually ı don't like such touristic places because they usually disappoint you when you realise that they are actually not that good. But the guide books are definitely not wrong about this place!

On their menu you see a small box, in which the name of the very special Schnitzel of the restaurant is written. They reccomend you to enjoy their speciality accompanied by their special(again!) salad with a tasty dressing.

If you are in Vienna another MUST DO is definitely the PRATER ! Here is -of course- an amusementpark. I love amusementparks! You experience the most exciting moments of your life! Prater was also very enjoyable. Especially that attraction SPACE SHOT which throws you meters high in a time that lasts less than one second!
Space Shot'in yasattigi heyecan bir yana, esas girdigim Korku Tunelini hic unutamicam! Jack the Ripper Thriller House ! Hani korku evleri genelde hic beklediginiz gibi cikmaz, bi heyecanla girer , cikinca da hayalkirikligiyla 'Bu muydu yani!? ' dersiniz genelde. Ama bu ! Adi bile korkunc olan bu korku evi hakkaten de tuyler urperticiydi. Zifiri karanlik bir ev, icinde yuruyerek ilerliyorsunuz ve ne tarafa ilerlemeniz gerektigini bile bilemiyorsunuz. Tam 'Oh be bitti ' dediginiz an ise sizi Cikis Asansoru karsiliyor. Asansore giriyor, buradan kurtulucaginizi dusunuyorken asansorun de bu korku evinin bir parcasi oldugunu fark ediyosunuz. Cunku asansordeki isiklar sonuyor ve asansorun buyuk bir hizla metrelerce dustugunu hissediyorsunuz. İste bu kisim hakkaten dehset vericiydi...
Besides the amazing feeling that ı felt in Space Shot, ı will never forget the spook house: Jack the Ripper Thriller House! Actually, the spook houses are never good enough how you expected. You get in with a big excitement and when you come out you immediately say ' This is it?! ' with a huge disappointment.But this one! This one was really creepy! A completely dark house, you walk in it and you don't have any idea in which way you should walk. And just when you say ' Thank god it's over !' you realise that it's just a begining! The elevator which supposed to be the exit elevator is actually a part of this thrilling house. You get into the elevator and suddenly the light goes out and the elevator starts to fall down really fast. This part was really dreadful...

Bu yemek Avusturyalilara has bol yumurta ve unla yapilan taze makarna gibi bir hamur isi. Bu hamurlarin ustunde peynir(muhtemelen Emmental) eritilip bir de karamelize soganlarla suslendikten sonra dehset lezzetli oluyor! Ozellikle vejeteryanlara cok uygun ve inanilmaz doyurucu. İki kisi su koca tabagi bitiremedik.
This dish is a austrian pastry which is made with egg and flour and seems like homemade pasta. They melt cheese ( Emmental probably) on this pastry and than they add nicely caramelized onions on the top. Its delicious! This dish is especially perfect for vegetarians and really fulfilling. The two of us together couldn't even finish one plate!

And finally our last night... We thought our last night should be classy! So we got dressed very chicly and went to a very chic italian ristorante in the famous square called 'Stephansdom' of Vienna: La Fratelli. Such enjoyable it was! The restaurant, the servers and the people seemed so nice...
Tatli garsonumuz once bize birer aperatif Kokteyl getirdi: Aperolspritze. Aperol'lerimizi yudumlarken onden Sarimsakli Ekmek istedik. Birer dilim gelir diye dusunurken adam kucuk ekmeklerin harika bir sarımsaklı zeytinyag sosunda yuzdugu kocaman bir tabakla cikti karsimiza!
First of all our lovely server brought us an aperitif cocktail: Aperolspritze. While we were enjoying our aperitif we decided to have garlic bread as starter. I thouhgt that they will bring each of us a slice of bread but the server came with a big plate with lots of small breads which actually swam in a tasteful garlic olive sauce!
Sira ana yemege gelince tercihimizi gunlerdir hayalini kurdugumuz makarnadan yaptik. Dogru karar vermisiz. Arkadasim krema soslu kiyma dolgulu Ravioli yerken ben de enfes bir Lazanya yedim. Restoran lezzet de dahil tam puan aldi bizden!
As the time came to order our maincourses we made our choices from pasta. Right decision! As my friend ate a delicious Ravioli with minced meat filling and cream sauce ı enjoyed a yummy lasagne. Also with its tasty meals the restaurant took a very high score from us!
E tabii ki bu klas yemekte bize restoranin kendi imal ettigi birer kadeh kirmizi sarap eslik etti :)
Of course in this classy dinner one glass of homemade redwine which the restaurant produced itsself accompanied each of us :)
Ve kadehlerimizi bu muhtesem guzellikteki sehre ve burada gecirdigimiz o unutulmaz dort gune kaldirdik. SEREFE VIYANA !
And we raised our glasses to this amazingly beautiful city and the unforgetable four days which we spent here. CHEERS VIENNA!
