Two high school teens, who are best friends, Lara and Revna were continually exploring the beautiful city Istanbul for three years, until Lara had the opportunity to experience a whole one year in Charleston in the USA by AFS Exchange program. But this separation was not the end of their friendship and explorations, unlike it was a beginning. While Revna was continuing to get around in Istanbul's elegant streets, Lara was challenging her with her discoveries in Charleston. And now, after about two years Lara is going to study in the beautiful city Toulouse in France. This is again another beginning of an adventure for these friends after their funny 'intercontinental' competition. Now their page is dedicated to share the colorful memories of their friendship and their new discoveries both in Turkey and France, especially in İstanbul and Toulouse!

Well well well it's just started ...

My experience has just started , from now on I 'am  an officiallyAFS Exchange Student . I got my flight   08 August at 1:35 o'clock for Chicago .  Melis and I flew about 12 hours to Chicago and at the airport The AFS Volunteers greeted us . There we learned that it's gonna be the last time we are gonna see each other this year . After big huggings , I got in the car with 2 other AFS students from Switzerland ( Cecile and Denise ) and we went to hotel where we 'll gonna do our orientation camp. Cecile speaks french so I spoke french with her and when we went to hotel we met with other lovely AFS Volunteers . They helped us to find our room . In our room we had also a french student , her name was Marie she was so cute too but we  slept very early because  we were exhausted from the flight .
Other day we woke up at 7:15 pm and prepared . We took our first breakfast in America . There were waffles , pancakes, breads, omelets , cinnamons ( its like  a cookie with cinnamon, inside of these cookies there are lots of sugar , chocolate sauce and cinnamon) and all these things that you can imagine with lots of calories in it . After eating our breakfast they told us that there are gonna do some activities for prepare us for the year .
There are 3 BIG RULES in AFS :

  • NO DRIVING
  • NO DRUGS
  • NO HITCHHIKING
We spoke these rules and what we can do or can't do during this year . About 4 a'clock families started to come and after meeting with families . Dave , Maya and I took the car for going to Charleston . I am in the south of Illinois so I 'am gonna be in the Greater Illinois Team this year . There are 3 team greater, south and east ( if I'am not remembering wrong) . St Charles to Charleston takes 3.5 hours with car. We spoked alot in car about my culture , Istanbul , America .....We took our dinner at panuka Breads at Champaign  ( I think it was the name of restaurant ). Champaigne is the biggest town which is close to Charleston . We ate soup and sandwiches , it was so DELİCİOUS and when we came to Charleston we went to Coffee shop and Maya showed me around . I met her best friend and her boyfriend . They are all lovely people . Now I'm in my room and I am so exhausted .
Good night everyone.

-love Lara
