Hakkımızda/About Us
Two high school teens, who are best friends, Lara and Revna were continually exploring the beautiful city Istanbul for three years, until Lara had the opportunity to experience a whole one year in Charleston in the USA by AFS Exchange program. But this separation was not the end of their friendship and explorations, unlike it was a beginning. While Revna was continuing to get around in Istanbul's elegant streets, Lara was challenging her with her discoveries in Charleston. And now, after about two years Lara is going to study in the beautiful city Toulouse in France. This is again another beginning of an adventure for these friends after their funny 'intercontinental' competition. Now their page is dedicated to share the colorful memories of their friendship and their new discoveries both in Turkey and France, especially in İstanbul and Toulouse!

THE 3-Ingredients PASTA SAUCE: GARLIC-PARSLEY-OLIVE OIL/ Üc Malzemeli Nefis Makarna Sosu
I want to invite some friends to home and prepare them a nice cozzy meal? But you dont want to spend hours in the kitchen? Then you should make this Spaghetti which will only take about ten minutes and is even easier than a basic tomato sauce.you will be surprised that a 10 minutes pasta sauce tastes soo delicious !Ingredients:3 cups parsley-finely chopped Olive oil 5-6 garlic cloves-finely chopped 1 package of pasta (Spaghetti)For seasoning: Salt, pepper All you need to do is: Saute your garlic cloves in some olive oil over medium-low heat (so that they dont burn) Add the chopped parsley-stir a little bit After 2-3 minutes add some olive oil more= THATS WHAT GIVES THE TASTE,so dont hesitate to add olive oil The sauce should be a little liquid(oily): dont let it simmer Add your pasta which you cooked and drained And your Pasta with Parsley and Garlic is ready!! Thats how easy it is.Serve it in nice big plates and open a red wine, enjoy your dinner with your friends:)Bikac arkadası eve davet edip ufak ve mütevazi ama aynı zamanda lezzetli bir aksam yemegi mi yapmak istiyosunuz?

Yummy 5 Ingredients Appetizer: Garlic Bread ! / Sadece 5 Malzeme: Sarımsaklı Ekmek !
Here is my favorite appetizer which ı prefer before a nice italian dish:
Garlic Bread
It only takes a few minutes to prepare them and it takes another 10 minutes for them to get nicely crispy in the oven!
Ingredients:
3-4 tablespoons butter
Olive oil
Parsley-finely chopped
4-5 cloves Garlic-minced
Bread(you can use every kind of bread but prefer thin slices so that they become verry crispyy)
For seasoning: salt and pepper
You can decide on the amount of your ingredients depending on how many bread slices you want.
All you need to do is:
Mix the butter, parsley, garlic and olive oil.Season with salt and pepper. I use a fork to mix them so that ı can crush the butter nicely.Slice your bread and spread the butter mixture on the slices.Lay the slices on an oven tray.Dont forget to use an oven paper too! And put the tray into the oven and just wait until the butter melts nicely and your garlic breads seem crispy! You will also understand that your bread slices are ready with the great smell that comes out of the oven!

Kitchen Discoveries: Chickpea Salad
We made this yummy chickpea salad as a side dish for our baked salmon.
Its FRESH, HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS! Oh, and very EASY
Somonumuzun yanına yaptığımız nohut salatamızı paylaşalım simdi de:)
TAZE, SAGLIKLI VE NEFİS! He bir de COK KOLAY
CHICKPEA SALAD with some extra red kidney beans:
All you need:
1 can chickpea
1 can red kidney beans
1 or 2 tomatoes: chopped
1 or 2 bell pepper ( red-green-yellow-doesnt matter!)
1 or 2 cucumber: chopped
1 big onion ( red or white-your choice) - finely chopped
a little bit parsley
if you like it, a little bit dill
olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, fresh lemon juice= for the dressing!
Meksika fasulyesi de ekleyiverdigimiz NOHUT SALATASI:
İhtiyacınız olan malzemeler:
1 konserve meksika fasulyesi
After you chop all these ingredients in to very tiny pieces(you dont have to chop chickpeas and beans of course!), all you need to do is just mix them in a large salad bowl! And add the dressing!
You can add some ingredients depending on your taste: Maybe some feta cheese? Or some olives? Finely chopped garlic? If you wanna have a colourful salad you should add all colours of bell peppers like we did! So that how it looks is as good as how it tastes :)

Back in the Kitchen: Go Healthy !
As Lara is back in town, we have just started with our Kitchen Discoveries! And we are completely down for some healthy food!
Eh, Lara da İstanbul'u tekrar sereflendirmis olduguna gore Mutfak Kesiflerimize tam gaz devam edebiliriz! Bu sefer tamamen SAGLIKLI gidelim dedik!
Ve işte nefis maydanoz ve ekmek kırıntılarıyla pişirdiğimiz FIRINDA SOMONUMUZ:
So Here it comes: Our great Herb-Crusted BAKED SALMON
Eh, Lara da İstanbul'u tekrar sereflendirmis olduguna gore Mutfak Kesiflerimize tam gaz devam edebiliriz! Bu sefer tamamen SAGLIKLI gidelim dedik!
Ve işte nefis maydanoz ve ekmek kırıntılarıyla pişirdiğimiz FIRINDA SOMONUMUZ:
For the salmon, all you need to do is:
Salmon fillets
Some Dijon mustard
1 big onion
1 red pepper
1 cup fresh parsley
2 tablespoons olive oil
Some bread(for the herb crust)
Salt and pepper (As always!)
If you want you can add some garlic powder on the vegetables
Nefis bir somon için gerektiğiniz sadece:
Biraz Dijon Hardal
3 tatlı kaşıgı taze limon suyu
1 büyük beyaz sogan
1 dolmalık kırmızı biber
İki-üc avuc maydanoz
Birazcık ekmek (kepekli-beyaz,size kalmış, biz kepekli kullandık)
Ve tabiiki biraz baharat: Tuz karabiber ve varsa sarımsak tozu
Gelelim tarife:

All you need to do is:
Preheat the oven! And line a baking sheet on the tray. Slice the onions and red peppers and combine them in a bowl with some olive oil, pepper and salt.(We also added some broccoli florets) Set this mixture on the baking sheet and lay your salmon fillets on them. These onions and pepper slices will cook in the oven nicely together with the salmon and give a great balance to the richness of salmon fillets. Another thing that will give a nice balance will be your herb crust!
TO PREPARE THE HERB CRUST: Combine bread, parsley, salt, pepper, some olive oil and lemon juice in a food processor! Spread top of the fillets first with some dijon mustard and then with this crumb mixture, press gently.

UPDATE FROM LARA
Let's make a little update !
Hey guys ! How are you all doing ? It's literally been for ever that I haven't done anything !
I am sorry for not keeping track on our blog ... Anyways it's always good to start from somewhere..
I returned back to Turkey this July, It's been almost 4 months (OMG) when did it pass this quickly ?
So during my summer I was in Bodrum with my family and friends. It was fun times.
Then I worked for an organization near the ending of August . It was an International Sport Tournament in Didim. The game that they were competing with each other is called Korfball. Its the only game in the entire world that both have female and male as player in the teams. It's similar to basketball but the rules are different . I put a link below if you want to read about it more. Anyways I was the team responsible for foreign teams . I made all the translation work :) It was really fun to work with such a great team and wonderful people .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korfball
Ops! I almost forgot !! Guess who came to visit me in Bodrum this summer ?? KALIN CAME ! I still can't believe it ! I was the best week of mylife. We did a lot of things . We went for an boat trip, clubs, concerts and more other things. I can't even describe how happy I was ! I miss him :( I wish everything could be just like in Charleston :(
Then I spend my last weeks of vacation in Bodrum again and I returned back to Istanbul at the beginning of September. My school started 10th and I think its been a month. I am still struggling with the school work cause it's really hard to adjust myself to this system again. My school is an foreign school. It's a French High school that's why we do everything in French and it's pretty hard after not doing any practice for a year.
But it's getting better.
And the important part! Revna and I we start A NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!! we are going to put a video every week. I hope it will turn to a nice project :) Now that we are reunited we are ready to explore new things again :)

HI GUYS!!!!!

Dear friends from ALL OVER THE WORLD ,
I am writing in regards to my country Turkey. As you might have seen in the news in the last 48 hours a civil war started in my country. The protest is against the destruction of Gezi Park (the only green spot left in the center of Istanbul) for the construction of a shopping mall instead, but it was never only about the park. The park became a symbol for everything that the government is tearing down, the trees they cut down, the history they destroyed, the rivers they polluted, the seas they filled with cement, all in the name of economical growth, and of course the laws they have enacted to attack our private lives.. Now, in Turkey the police (known as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's army) are using guns, force and chemical products to stop the riots. The riots are being caused by the violence of Turkish police. While all these things are happening Turkish media is trying to ban everything including Facebook,Twitter, newspapers, etc. so I am asking your help please don't ignore the ruthlessness and cruelty of the Turkish government!! Thousands of people are on streets all over the country protesting, and yet the police are gas bombing the unarmed protestors! No offical has made any attempt to stop this violence!

CHS 2013 Graduation
Once American author, Carl Sandburg said: ''Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.'' He was right, time is something that we could never exchange with anybody or we can't buy.
You have only one chance to use it, you can use it wisely or waste it.
And if you even want to correct your mistake there is no way back. Briefly If you do something wrong you are screwed. Btw TODAY WAS MY GRADUATION DAY !
Its been 9 months that I've been in Charlie High. I made wonderful memories and made awesome friends. Today showed me that , I made the best decision with joining this program. If I didn't get in this program, I would never have chance to met all these wonderful people. I would never know there was a town called Charleston. I am thankful to my exchange program that they made me replace with this town. I will be happy for the next /future exchange student who will end up with Chuck town. I remember the first day I came, I was horrified and I wanted this year will be over soon.
It looked like the longest journey that I could ever make in my life. But it wasn't right. This year was the funnest and sadly shortest year of my life. Everyday was a journey, new words, new tastes,
new people, new experiences. It amazes me that how things have changed even in 9 months.
When you are a newbie, you don't understand what is really happening around you. But with time you
get into the routine and once you found people like you, it changes all. Nowadays , I am done with school and it's really anticlimactic.
I feel like I need to do homework or I feel sad that now it's sunday because I need to be wake up for the morning to go school. But it's over and I am leaving in thirty-six day. Thirty six day ! It's nothing ! I am sad, I don't want this to be over, I am not ready yet. Our graduation was at Lantz at EIU.
The ceremony was almost 3 hours long. Best part was Linnea's speech and the song that we sang with choir for the last time. Linnea gave a really good speech about graduation, It was hilarious. And with choir we sang Seize The Day by Newsies Musical. Newsies was the show that we watched at Broadway when we went to choir trip in spring break.
My plans for these following weeks are to do my workout almost everyday. I need to loose weight for summer. I gained a lot of weight during my stay in America. Because of all these fast food and grace but I will loose them again. This time I am more determined. Well thats all for now.
Love Lara

LAST 5 WEEKS
Living in country side |
CHS ANYTHİNG GOES MUSİCAL |
"A year has passed and now we stand on the brink, of returning to a world where we are surrounded by the paradox of everything and yet nothing being the same. In a couple of weeks we will reluctantly give our hugs and, fighting the tears,we will say goodbye to people who were once just names on a sheet of paper to return to people that we hugged and fought tears to say goodbye to before we ever left.We will leave our best friends to return to our best friends.
Prom |
Who will you call first? What will you do your first weekend home with your friends? Where are you going to work? Who will be at the party Saturday night? What has everyone been up to in the past few months? Who from school will you keep in touch with? How long before you actually start missing people barging in without calling or knocking? Then you start to realize how much things have changed, and you realize the hardest part of being an exchange student is balancing the two completely different worlds you now live in, trying desperately to hold on to everything all the while trying to figure out what you have to leave behind.
We now know the meaning of true friendship. We know who we have kept in touch with over the past year and who we hold dearest to our hearts. We've left our worlds to deal with the real world. We've had our hearts broken, we've fallen in love, we've helped our best friends overcome eating disorders, depression, stress, and death. We've lit candles at the grotto and we've stayed up all night on the phone just to talk to a friend in need. There have been times when we've felt so helpless being hours away from home when we know our families or friends needed us the most, and there are times when we know we have made a difference.
Just weeks from now we will arrive. Just weeks from now we will unpack our bags and have dinner with our families. We will drive over to our best friend's house and do nothing for hours on end. We will return to the same friends whose random emails and phone calls have brought us to laughter and tears over the year. We will unpack old dreams and memories that have been put away for the past year. In just weeks we will dig deep inside to find the strength and conviction to adjust to change and still keep each other close. And somehow, in some way, we will find our place between these two worlds.
